This 3 foot tall 'Relic' is of the Gunnison River on both sides of the piece. The Gunnison River is a powerful contributor to the Colorado River Basin, carrying roughly 40% of the water that ultimately continues downstream toward the Colorado River. Over millions of years, its persistent movement has carved the Black Canyon—cutting through volcanic rock, carrying stone and sediment, and shaping the landscape one season at a time. This Impermascape holds a trace of that ongoing process: a moment of the Gunnison’s riverbed captured in clay, transforming the river’s erosion into a physical record of place, time, and movement.
